The College of Staten Island’s Soccer Complex will be the home field for a FREE Youth Soccer Clinic this Saturday. Kids age 8-18 are invited to visit the new facility and learn tips and tricks from the college’s varsity players and coaches while playing on the recently installed hi-tech playing surface.

“Just show up in appropriate footwear and clothing” says Harold Merritt, director of athletics at CSI, who also said they are expecting several organized teams from the Staten Island Soccer League to participate.

This is the kind of use for the new field that I have been envisioning since this project was first conceived ,stated Council Member Oddo. I am happy that CSI is throwing open its doors for this free soccer clinic and I continue to encourage those organized athletic leagues who would like to use the field to contact us so that a workable schedule can be made.

The College of Staten Island Soccer Complex had its grand opening two weeks ago when CSI the hosted The City University of New York’s (CUNY) Athletic Conference soccer tournament. Councilman James Oddo and CSI President Marlene Springer were in attendance for the festivities, which signified the successful partnership that brought the field to CSI.

Through Councilman Oddo’s ability to secure the funding for the project, the college was able to build a state-of-the-art soccer field for the college’s teams to compete on. In addition, when the field is not in use by the intercollegiate athletics program, it will be made available to various community school teams and youth groups, who will be able to take advantage of playing on a first-class field surface.
