The College of Staten Island women’s tennis team saw their season-long three-game winning streak snapped, getting into a hole early that they could not climb out of, falling to Brooklyn College, 6-3, as part of CUNYAC play.  The Bulldogs improved to 10-2 overall and a perfect 7-0 in CUNYAC, while the Dolphins fell to 6-7, 5-3, respectively.

Doubles proved to be the difference in the match, as the Bulldogs were able to complete a sweep to take a commanding 3-0 lead.  CSI’s closest attempt to steal away a doubles came in the No. 2 position, where the Dolphins team of Alena Vedeneeva and Maryna Incherchera fell just short to BC’s Maria Sanz and Norma Chabbott, 9-8 (7-4).

when play shifted to singles, CSI held their own but needing to win five of six flights, CSI could only muster up a split.  Sophomore Ilona Stoyko powered to a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2, while Jean Baak at No. 4 scored a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Sanz. One spot lower, Incherchera was a 6-2, 6-1, winner over Chabbott.  Yuliya Orkis (No. 1), Janice Shen (No. 3) and Gianna Gelosi (No. 6) all took wins for the Bulldogs.

CSI will get back to work tomorrow, traveling to take on William Paterson University at 4pm.
