The College of Staten Island women’s volleyball skid hit 10, as the Dolphins fell tonight at home to visiting College of St. Elizabeth, 3-0, in non-conference play at the Sports & Recreation Center.  Individual game scores were 25-17, 25-21 & 25-21.  The Dolphins fell to 2-14 overall while the Eagles extended to 11-12.

CSI fell behind early in the first game by as many as seven points, and even though the team was able to cut the lead to as few as three points, St. E’s rolled for the win.  CSI held a modest early lead in the second set, and the score was knotted at 17-17 before the Eagles rattled off four straight points to seize momentum and roll to the win.

Missing offensive weapon Ma Soccoro Calleja from the lineup due to injury, CSI leaned on Vasiliki Stergioula, and the sophomore pitched in with 11 of the team’s 28 total kills next to just two errors.  Stergioula also led the team with three service aces while contributing 10 digs.  St. E’s out-killed CSI, 42-28, led by Subhana Wrights’ 15 kills and Kareemah Muhammad’s 10.  CSE’s Amy Cooper was dynamic at the setter position, netting 26 assists, while CSI’s Jean Marie Lewandoski paved the way defensively with a game-high 20 digs.

CSI’s next contest will be this coming Saturday, October 15, at 12 Noon, when the team hosts Rutgers-Newark.
