An informative event is scheduled as part of the Special Events Series for Fall 2012 at the Faculty Center for Professional Developmenton Tuesday, Nov. 27 in the Library (Building 1L), Room 203 from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. All full-time, part-time, and retired faculty are invited to join us.

Sarah Benesch, Professor of English and ESL Coordinator will discuss “Faculty and Students Who Speak First Languages Other than English: What Are the Issues?”

Aiming to create a more cosmopolitan climate for faculty and students who speak first languages other than English, this workshop will explore the following questions:

1. What are varying definitions of “non-native speaker of English” and what do those definitions reveal about linguistic attitudes?
2. What challenges do faculty and students who speak first languages other than English face at CSI?
3. What types of support would faculty and students who speak languages other than English welcome?

Please RSVP to Kristen Lindtvedt in the Faculty Center at 718.982.3774 or via email at facultycenter@csi.cuny.edu.

We hope that you can join us for coffee, conversation, and the opportunity to meet CSI colleagues.
