College Carpool Program Eases Commute for Students, Faculty, Staff

November 04, 2012

In recognition of the ongoing disruption in public transportation and the shortage of fuel in the NYC metropolitan area, the College of Staten Island urges all students, faculty, and staff to register for the CSI RideShare program to conserve resources and ease commuting stress to campus.

Upon creating an account that includes a participants name and commuting schedule, the interactive map-based tool leverages the robust database and backbone of the Internet’s premiere ridesharing matchmaker, CommuterLink, and helps match nearby travelers and trip takers with each other, making travel to campus quicker and easier.

“All members of the college family are urged to register for this important tool,” commented Ira Persky, vice president for finance and administration  “It will allow those in need of transportation to connect with those capable of providing transportation, and will help ease commuting stress while building new friendships.”

The RideShare program, originally launched in 2009, is an initiative of the CSI Transportation Task Force. It is supported by compelling research performed by the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Group at CSI, which has leveraged the power of the CUNY IHPCC that identified populations that could greatly benefit from this ease of access.

Visit www.csi.cuny.edu/commuterlink today to learn more about CSI’s FREE ride matching service, CommuterLink’s Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) promise, and the time and money savings benefits of carpooling.

Questions about the program can be directed to Marguerite Fuller at 718-982-2240.

no one who owns a car registers for this program, so it doesn’t actually work
