Part of what makes the College of Staten Island such a wonderful place to work and learn is that, in times of trouble, we all come together to help. Last Friday, a small group of CSI staff came together as part of a grassroots effort to organize a plan of action at CSI to help support and take care of members of our College community directly impacted by last week’s devastating storm. Their needs are great, their losses profound, and they require our support now more than ever.

After the initial communication from the Office of Student Affairs on Friday afternoon, many of you have already brought in generous donations of clothing and other items, and we want to thank you for responding so quickly.  Additional clothing donations are certainly welcome: to expedite the sorting process, it would be very helpful if you could organize your clothing into bags clearly labeled as “Men’s,” “Women’s,” or “Children’s.”

Supplies specifically requested/needed are:

-Cleaning items (including bleach, Clorox wipes, and paper towels)

-Rubber gloves, work gloves

-Large plastic bags or contractor garbage bags

-Face masks

-Batteries and flashlights

-Paper plates, bowls, cups, and napkins; plastic forks, knives, and spoons

-Manual can openers

-Nonperishable food items

-Baby food, diapers, and wipes

-Pet items (including dry and canned food, cat litter, food and water bowls)

-Toiletries and personal hygiene items

-WetOnes or Handi Wipes

-Towels, sheets, and blankets

Donation Bin locations include:

-Campus Center (Building 1C) is the primary location for food donations.

-Center for the Arts (Building 1P) is the primary location for clothing and all other non-food items.

-Sports and Recreation (Building 1R), the Library (Building 1L), and Buildings 1A and 2A, have bins that were graciously provided by our Facilities Office.

All items are being collected daily so that they can be sorted, organized, and readied for distribution to members of the CSI community in need.

More information will be provided soon regarding when “Sandy’s Closet” and “Sandy’s Pantry” will be open for our CSI family, once those arrangements are finalized.

Thank you for the generosity that you have already shown, and in advance for the help that you will be providing to our friends and family.
