CUNYAC/Con Edison Player of the Game Bloochy Magliore led with 33 points and five rebounds.

No. 1 seeded College of Staten Island defeated # 8 Hunter College, 89-80, in Sunday’s CUNYAC/Con Edison Men’s Basketball Championship Quaerterfinal at the CSI Sports and Recreation Center. The Dolphins extend their record to 20-5 while the Hawks end their season with an 8-18 record.

With the win the Dolphins advance the semifinal round against # 4 Brooklyn College on Thursday, February 21st at CCNY at 6:00 pm.

Sparked by two back-to-back baskets by Jerrell Antley the Hawks jumped to a five point lead slowly extending into the half. At the nine minute mark, Brian Kruger’s three point goal gave the Hawks a nine point lead, the greatest they’d see in the game. From there, the Dolphins chipped away slowly as Bloochy Magliore’s free throw tied the game at 26 at six minutes. On the next possession a Matt Van Manen lay up gave the Dolphins their first lead. The team’s traded leads four times after finishing the second half with the Dolphins up three, 36-33, sealed with a Kevin King layup with two seconds remaining.

CSI held the Hawks as close as three until pulling away with a double digit lead at nine minutes. Back-to-back layups by Peter Koutsoloukas and a three pointer by Kruger helped Hunter within five with 8:50 on the clock. With a 12 point lead with 2:20 on the clock, the Hawks started to foul. Despite hitting three consecutive three’s in the final 30 seconds, the Dolphins earned 8-for-8 from free throw range to seal the win.

Bloochy Magliore earned CUNYAC/Con Edison Player of the Game with a game-high 33 points that included a solid 14-for-14 from free throw range along with five rebounds and three assists. Jonathan Myers added 24 points with four assists and Javon Cox tallied a double double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Jerrell Antley led the Hawks with 24 points and six assists while teammate Peter Koutsoloukas has 15 points.
