CSI is sponsoring a forum on Friday, Mar. 8, “Superstorm Sandy: A Serious Conversation about the Future of Staten Island,” which will provide our College with an opportunity to present information to a diverse group of professionals from the tri-state area and beyond.

As part of the forum activities, we plan to have poster presentations. The presentations will be set up adjacent to the forum room in the Atrium of the Center for the Arts. In addition, the proceedings of the forum and other related scholarly works will be published.

We are seeking faculty and student presentations of scholarship in the form of posters and papers related to the impact of Sandy on Staten Island, to the effects of other major storms on other communities, and to reconstruction efforts that followed these catastrophic events. We are particularly interested in social science presentations and papers addressing such issues as the short- and long-term influence of the devastation and disruption of life caused by the hurricane, earthquake, volcano, etc. on society as a whole; on the mental wellbeing of the population; and how this may relate to Staten Island.

We believe that this is an opportunity for our faculty and students to showcase the important work that is being done at the College. If you are interested in participating, please send an email to superstorm.sandy@csi.cuny.edu with a brief description of your intended contribution by Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.
