Timur Shamuradov was victorious in singles and doubles today

The College of Staten Island men’s tennis team fell on the regular season’s final day, dropping a slim, 5-4, decision at the hands of visiting Farmingdale State College at the CSI Tennis Center this afternoon.  CSI fell to 9-7 overall, while the Rams upped their mark to 9-2.

FSC got off to a 2-1 lead after doubles, but CSI was crisp at the top.  The top duo of Nick Zikos and Timur Shamuradov scored an impressive 8-3 winner over the FSC team of Alex Bessarabov and Steven Ferrantello.  Over at No. 2 and No. 3, however, the Rams had their way.  The team of Judd Bahoui and Ryan Musalo were able to get passed CSI’s Hector Molina and Ed Ruffe, 8-2, while one flight lower, Kevin Palacios and Bradley Smith got the better of CSI’s Dan Ursomanno and Kolachok Chuenpratum by an 8-1 count.

Due to classroom commitments, CSI would lose No. 1 singles player Zikos for singles, and with the lineup altered, CSI was still able to pull out a draw in singles, but with the 2-1 advantage in doubles, Farmingdale was able to hang on.  Playing his first match ever at No. 1, Shamuradov was impressive with a 6-0, 7-6, winner over Musalo, and Molina was also victorious at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-2, win over Bessarradov.  In the No. 3 flight, Ursomanno finished strong with a 7-6, 6-4, win over Ferrantello, improving his personal mark to 5-0 when he plays at No. 3.

The Rams were able to sweep the bottom three flights to help garner the victory.

Next up for CSI will be the CUNYAC Postseason Championship Tournament.  CSI has earned the No. 2 seed in the eight-team field by virtue of their 6-1 conference mark.  They will host No. 7 Lehman College on Friday afternoon at 3:30pm at the CSI Tennis Center.
