After suffering their first loss of the season yesterday, the College of Staten Island women’s tennis squad is back in the win column, striking down Lehman College, 8-1, as part of CUNYAC play in the Bronx, NY.  CSI improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the CUNYAC, while the Lightning fell to 0-2, 0-2, respectively.

The Dolphins got up early and never relented.  After Doubles, the team took a 3-0 lead.  In the top spot, Nozima Toshpulatova and Michelle Kushnire were flawless in an 8-0 win over Ayana Reed and Lynessa George.  One flight down, Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert and Madiha Mulla were equally strong in an 8-1 victory.  In the longest doubles faring, CSI’s duo of Aziza Jurabaeva and Viktoriya Volkova made it a clean sweep with a hard-fought, 8-6, win over LC’s Katherine Otero and Natalie Carrasquillo.

Lehman got their only victory at No.3 Singles, where Kanto Rasedoara turned back CSI’s Jurabaeva in a hard-fought, 3-6, 7-6, 10-8 decision.  CSI won the other flights in straight sets, including a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins for Mulla (No. 4) and Kushnir (No. 5).
