The College of Staten Island baseball program took on the City College of New York this afternoon at the CSI Baseball Complex.  The Dolphins came in riding a three-game win streak and extend that to four this afternoon with a 10-2 win over the Beavers. Staten Island improved to 14-7-1 overall while the Beavers fell to 6-12.

Game: Staten Island 10, City College of New York 2

Derek Jentz picked up his second win of the season this afternoon with a seven inning day that saw him face 28 batters, eight of which he struck out, while allowing just six hits before giving way to Dan Newman and Juan Rodriguez in relief.

The Dolphins found their way onto the scoreboard relatively early in this contest taking a 2-0 lead after blanking the Beavers in the top of the first.  Nick Meola moved Anthony DiMarco over to third with a single up the middle.  Meola saw and opportunity while standing at first and was able to safely steal second base to put two runners in scoring position for Frank Muzzio.  Muzzio made sure to not leave his teammates stranded and belted a single to right field allowing both Meola and DiMarco to score.  CCNY would answer right back with a run of their own cutting into the Dolphins’ lead.  Anthony Cacchione would single through the middle and had to wait awhile before Eric Giglio brought him home with a single to center field.

The follow two inning would go scoreless and both teams had good defensive stands.  The bottom of the fifth was unkind to the Beavers as the Dolphins would tally five runs on four hits with no errors committed.  Frank Sconzo ignited the offense with a one-out single to center field.  Wasting no time Sconzo stole second to put himself in scoring position.  Meola would go ahead and load the bases with a single to left field, once again setting up Muzzio to bring in more runs.  Muzzio would not disappoint as he would go on to double to right field to put two runs on the board to bring their total up to four after five innings of play. Meola, would go on to score on a passed ball before Josh Mercado slugged a two RBI single to right field scoring both Glenn Glennerster and Muzzio.

CSI backed up their five-run inning with another two security runs in the bottom of the sixth.  DiMarco would single through the left side which allowed Jett Nouvertne to score from third after he reached on a walk. After collecting four RBIs earlier in the game Muzzio had a chance to collect more but unfortunately grounded into a double play.

The Beavers would finally tally another run in the seventh inning after Rob Mandich singled to right center which brought home Brendan Murp.  The Beavers were unable to close the gap on the Dolphins any further, allowing the Dolphins to extend their win streak.

Staten Island finished the day with 10 runs on 10 hits with just one error to their name while the Beavers tallied two runs on 9 hits with two errors. On the day, Muzzio finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run while Josh Mercado finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

The Dolphins are back in action tomorrow afternoon where they will take on CCNY in a doubleheader in New Rochelle at 12:00 pm.
