The College of Staten Island women’s softball squad clinched their fifth-straight CUNYAC Championship just yesterday and has learned their fate for the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.  The Dolphins will travel to Williams College and will take on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the opening round of Regional play.  Host Williams College and Thomas College (ME) are the other squads that will face off in the double-elimination regional which kicks off on Friday.

Depending on how the Dolphins fare on Friday against the Engineers, they will compete again on Saturday as part of winner’s or loser’s bracket extended play.  The winners of Regional play will the advance to Super Regionals, leading to the top eight schools advancing to the final round of play.

The Dolphins are making their 10th trip to the NCAA National Championship, and after having won consecutive tournament games in 2016 & 2017, are looking for advanced play this season.  The CUNYAC tournament wins moved CSI to 34-7, their finest season in program history.  They have never faced any of the teams involved in this year’s regional at Williams.

RPI is a member of the Liberty League, and finished 25-12 this season, winning the conference with a 9-0 victory against Clarkson University. They share two common opponents with the Dolphins this season, going 2-2 against Rochester & Stockton, while CSI went 3-0.

In the other half of the bracket, Williams is the top seed.  The Ephs went 31-10 overall and won the NESCAC Championship this season.  The Terriers of Thomas College went 14-21 this season, but won the NAC Championship this weekend and are on a seven game win skein.
