The College of Staten Island men’s basketball team is getting set for a title defense in 2017-18, with brand new coach T.J. Tibbs at the helm.  To intro the excitement the program is officially unveiling their 2017-18 slate today.  The 25-game set officially gets underway in mid-November, and finalizes with the CUNYAC Championship in late-February.

The Dolphins will open their title defense on November 15, tangling with Yeshiva University on the road at 7:30pm.  That intros a four-game road swing to open the year.  Two of those games occur the weekend of November 17-18, when the team heads to Lebanon Valley College for the Rinso Marquette Tournament.  CSI will play Ursinus College to kick off the weekend.  CSI opens up the home portion of their schedule on November 29, when they entertain Stevens Institute of Technology at 7:00pm at the Sports & Recreation Center.

After the first five contests, CSI will intro the CUNYAC portion of the schedule on December 2, when they travel to take on John Jay College for a 12 Noon matinee.  One week later, CSI will host CCNY in a rematch of last year’s CUNYAC title game for their conference home opener on December 9.

In what has become a tradition, CSI will welcome in three visiting teams for the 16th Annual Tournament of Heroes the weekend of December 29-30.  After the close of December, 13 of CSI’s final 15 games are against conference opponents.  The exceptions are a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday matinee against Kean University at home and the first-ever CSAC Challenge Game scheduled for either February 2-3.  There a CUNYAC team will match up with a CSAC team according to positional standing in their respective conferences.  The draw will be determined in mid-January.

After six of seven at home, CSI will finalize with a pair of road dates against Brooklyn College (2/8) and Lehman College (2/10).  Up next is the CUNYAC Postseason Tournament, one that feature six teams rather than the usual eight that has existed in the past.  Quarterfinals begin on February 17 at higher seeded teams.  The CUNYAC Semifinals (2/20) and Final (2/23) will take place at the City College of New York.  The winner of the CUNYAC Tournament earned an automatic berth in to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
