College of Staten Island women’s soccer freshman Nermina Bracic had an outstanding game this past weekend, and for her efforts she has been named the Rookie of the Week by the City University of New York Athletic Conference.  It is the first major award won by Bracic in her collegiate career.

The first-year midfielder only appeared in a lone contest last week, a 7-0 win over Medgar Evers College on Saturday, and Bracic was a huge part of the final three goals on the afternoon.  In the 22nd minute, Bracic crossed the ball into the box on the left side and found an open Kiara Meza-Mendez, who tapped home a goal for her second marker of the year.  Less than five minutes later, Bracic got a goal of her own, tucking one in near-post after dribbling through a pair of defenders to gain the box.

Finally, in the 48th minute of the game, Bracic added another assist, this time on a Brittany Bornstad tally and on a cross from the right side.  For the day, Bracic appeared in 53 minutes tallying a goal and two assists with four total shots.  For the year, she has the one goal and three assists with four tries at goal.

CSI is currently 8-5-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the CUNYAC.  They pick up play on Thursday against Brooklyn College at 3:30pm at the CSI Soccer Complex.
