The College of Staten Island women’s soccer won their third-straight home game this afternoon on senior day after they dominated York College to the tune of 9-0 at the CSI Soccer Complex.  The Dolphins improved to 10-5-1 (4-0-1 CUNYAC) while the Cardinals remain winless at 0-12-1 (0-4-1 CUNYAC)

Kaitlin Russo scored just 17 seconds into the game as fans were barely settled into their seats. Victoria Sanchez was able to streak down the right flank and send in a low cross to Russo who was able to tuck it underneath the outstretched Stephanie Gutierrez.  That would set the tone for the rest of this CUNYAC matchup as the Dolphins would dominate every facet of the game. Five minutes later, Staten Island would double their total with another goal by Russo. Adrianna Parello and fellow senior Russo would team up to create a glorious goal.  Parello sent in a cross which found Russo wide open to volley it into the top right corner of the goal for her second of the day.

Lizbeth Aparicio continues to shine on corner kicks and collected her fourth goal of the season off of a corner kick.  Aparicio set up shop by the back post and was able to bury the ball in the back of the net off of the corner by Parello.  The Cardinals couldn’t find an answer for the Dolphins attack and struggled to get the ball into the Dolphins’ final third.

With wave after wave of attacks, the Cardinals finally broke and allowed the fourth goal of the game when Keonjah Nugent line up a shot from 25-yards out and knocked it in the back of the net.

At the half, the Dolphins held a healthy 18-0 edge in shots, five of which Gutierrez was able to save.

The Dolphins added five more goals in the second half, three in a four-minute span. Once again the Dolphins started quick, picking up their fifth goal of the game just two minutes into the second half.  Daniela Zirpolo tallied her third of the year when she received a pass inside the box and was able to curl it into the goal. Just one minute later, the Dolphins’ leading goal scorer Nicole Mignone, headed home her seventh of the year.

On senior day, Diana Estrada was able to capture a goal in the waning moments of the game when she uncorked a rocket of a shot that flew into the left side of the net for her second of the year. Paulina Ambrus would go on to score the final goal of the game when Estrada crossed the ball into the box which found Ambrus open for an easy toe-poke into the back of the net.

The Dolphins have now scored 23 goals in their last four outings and will next face the Bloodhounds of John Jay College on Saturday, October 21 at 1:00 pm in New York, NY which can determine the CUNYAC regular season champions.
