The College of Staten Island swimming & diving team hosted Sarah Lawrence in a non-conference meet this afternoon at the CSI Sports & Recreation Center.  The Dolphins split the meet with the Gryphons, with the men winning 123-59, while the women fell 61-123. The men improve to 3-5 on the year while the women fall to 2-7.

The men started the meet off with a win in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:06.62. The relay consisting of Nicholas Defonte, Jonathan Gorinshteyn, Pete Carle, and Christopher Sorenson was able to jolt the Dolphins to an early lead on the men’s side.  The Dolphins kept their momentum going into the 1000-yard freestyle when Trevin Robinson touched first, with a time of 15:12.38 to keep his team in the lead early on. 

Ewa Wojciechowska picked up a win in the 1000-yard freestyle for the women, touching the wall in 12:27.25, eight seconds before her opponent. Carle kept the first place finishes coming for the Dolphins in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:07.86, just two seconds faster than Jacob Ringo of Sarah Lawrence. Anthony Lee broke up the string of first place finishes for the Dolphins when he took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.24.  

Alicia Defonte picked up a second-place finish in the 400-yard IM with a time of 6:03 to help keep her team in the meet.

Gorinshteyn extended the Dolphins’ lead once again, earning first place in the 400-yard IM with a time of 5:02.79.  On the boards, Alyssa Dunn scored a 170 to take the top spot while Jessica Shaw came in second with a score of 162.30.  For the men, Ayman El Haddad earned his first-place finish with a score of 237.97. 

Wojciechowska and Cecelia Mauro earned a combined 12 points in the 500-yard freestyle when they came in first and third, respectively. When it came time for the three-meter diving portion, El Haddad once again took the top spot with a score of 194.25.

To close the meet out, the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Johnnan Monzon, Michael Blacharski, Michael Sorensen, and Trevin Robinson earned 11 points with a time of 4:26.25. 

The Dolphins will return to action on Tuesday, January 16 when they host John Jay in a CUNYAC meet at 6pm.
