Staten Island, NY | The Dolphins (9-13) ended their four-game losing skid this morning with an early, 7-0, win over New Rochelle (7-19). The Blue Angels bounced back in game two and held the Dolphins to just one run while scoring four to win 4-1.
Game 1: Staten Island 7, New Rochelle 0
Tom Musso (3-3) trotted out to the mound for his sixth start of the season and pitched a complete game shutout tallying six strikeouts and allowed just three hits.
Jett Nouvertne got the Dolphins started with a leadoff single to the shortstop and was moved over to second by Jordan Wilson who laid down a sacrifice bunt. Nouvertne took advantage of a passed ball to reach third and after an overthrow by the catcher, he was able to cross the dish for the games first run. Frank Muzzio lined one through the right side for an RBI single to double CSI’s lead.
Once again the Dolphins would cash in on an error committed by the Blue Angels. It started with a fielding error by Hart which allowed Jordan Wilson to reach safely. Another fielding error, this time it was Suarez in left field who committed the error which allowed Wilson to score from second. Sean Becker wouldn’t have to wait long to get off of the bases as Anthony DiMarco belted one to left field for an RBI double.
After the dust settled at the end of the fifth inning, the Dolphins had scattered four hits and used three errors to score five runs while leaving just one runner on base.
Becker went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and DiMarco tallied two hits and an RBI. Nick Meola finished 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI while four other Dolphins also recorded a hit.
Game 2: New Rochelle 4, Staten Island 1
Chris Karnbach (3-3) dug himself into a 3-0 hole early in the first inning, allowing two runs on wild pitches but settled down after getting out of the opening frame. Unfortunately for him, the Dolphins were unable to replicate their bats from the first game as they would go to record six hits and score just one run.
New Rochelle capitalized on an early error by the Dolphins in the opening stanza and heads up base running which allowed them to score all the runs they would need to pick up their seventh win of the year.
After being held scoreless for two innings the Dolphins looked poised to have another explosive inning. In the bottom of the third Wilson hit a single to shallow center field. Wilson used his speed to steal second and steal third once Becker reached via a walk.
DiMarco hit an RBI single to left field, keeping men in scoring position for his team. After Muzzio fouled out to the catcher Meola was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
With just one out, Glenn Glennerster stepped to the plate looking to break out of his slump, however, it wasn’t in the cards for him this afternoon as he flew out to left field. Glennerster was followed by Anthony Lozada who reached on a fielder’s choice which ended the inning.
Trummert (1-0) kept the Dolphins off of the scoreboard for the rest of the game, forcing the Dolphins to pop out.
Four of CSI’s six hits came from Wilson and DiMarco with DiMarco recording the lone RBI in the game for Staten Island.
