After a week of competition for CSI’s spring collection of sports, the Dolphins are celebrating a pair of honors on Monday from the City University of New York Athletic Conference.  Senior Matthew Vesci took home CUNYAC Player of the Week honors in Men’s Tennis, while freshman Domenick Castiglione has been the conference’s Rookie of the Week in Baseball.

For CSI Men’s Tennis, the Dolphins competed in a lone match a week ago, a big win by the Dolphins on Friday over St. Joseph’s College of Brooklyn.  Vesci was outstanding from start to finish and unscored upon.  Teaming with Tao Lin in No. 2 Doubles, the duo scored an 8-0 win over the SJC team of Israel Bautista and Darrius Thompson.  When play then moved to Singles, Vesci played at the No. 1 position, and there he was on point, defeating SJC No. 1 player Daniel Vaitzman in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.  The win moved Vesci to 1-1 this season in Singles play, and moved him up to 2-0 in Doubles play.

Over on the baseball diamond, Castiglione rejoined the Dolphins after missing a four-game spurt, and picked up right where he left off.  In three weekend games, Castiglione batted .500 (5-10).  He also walked a pair of times lifting his on-base for the week to .583, and had a double and two RBI as well.  After hitting safely in all three games, he is now batting  .464 for the season with a team best six doubles and is second on the team with 6 RBI.

CSI tennis is returning to action this Saturday when they kick off CUNYAC play against Hunter College at the CSI Tennis Center at 12 Noon.  CSI Baseball is on the road against William Paterson for a single game on Tuesday, and then return home on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Yeshiva University beginning at 5pm.
