The College of Staten Island Library, in partnership with Hillel at the College of Staten Island, is proud to present an exciting, multimedia exhibit entitled Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American. This traveling exhibit has been generously loaned from the National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia, PA. It will be on display in the Library Rotunda from April 15- May 15.

Chasing Dreams: Baseball and Becoming American is about the central role that our national pastime has played in the lives of American minority communities as they sought to understand and express the ideals, culture, and behaviors of their homeland—or challenge them. It is the first large-scale exhibition to weave together the history of U.S. sport, leisure, and national identity with the history of Jewish integration into American life. Fascinating artifacts and digital interactives immerse visitors in the story of how Jews and others have navigated American culture and addressed the ongoing challenges of life in the United States. The exhibit also features some of the New York’s renowned baseball stars and legendary stadiums.

Faculty who are interested in incorporating the exhibit in the classroom should visit the Curriculum Guide.
