Emily Rice (Assistant Professor) Emily received her Ph.D. in Astronomy & Astrophysics from UCLA in 2009. She was a research scientist at the American Museum of Natural History before joining the Department of Physics and Engineering Science at CSI. Her primary research focus is spectroscopic studies of enigmatic objects called brown dwarfs, which form like stars but then cool and fade to resemble gas giant planets. She grew up in Rochester, NY and has worked at planetariums and science centers across the country.
