“My Staten Island: What Staten Island Means to Me and Why” is a College-wide writing contest open to undergraduate and graduate students to explore the subject of what our borough means to you and why. Love it? Hate it? Confounded by it? We want your true stories that make you hit yourself on the head and say, “Only on Staten Island.” Topics may include, but are not limited to, Staten Island lifestyles, human interest, family, college and/or working life, etc.

The first-prize winner of My Staten Island will receive:
-an award prize of $600
-the opportunity for publication in the Staten Island Advance (pending editorial approval)

The second-prize winner will receive a $100 award.

Submit entries to the English Department (Building 2S, Room 218) addressed to My Staten Island Writing Contest.

Rules:
-All entries must be 750 words maximum (approximately three pages)
-All entries must be typed, double-spaced, with one-inch margins
-Include contact information (name, phone number, email)
-Only one entry per person

The deadline for submissions is Friday, Apr. 23. The winning entry will be announced in May.
