The Department of Physical Therapy at CSI received the Related Services Scholarship Program Grant from the New York City Department of Education (DOE) to address the acute shortage of physical therapists in the New York City Schools.
Students enrolled in the Physical Therapy Department at the College of Staten Island/CUNY Graduate Center will apply for the scholarship program. Students accepted will be awarded scholarships that will pay their full tuition for either one or two years of the last two years of the Doctorate in Physical Therapy degree program. Participants then agree to commit to employment by the BOE for a defined period of time.
Jeffrey Rothman, Chairperson of CSI’s Physical Therapy Department, said that the DOE selected the CUNY Graduate Center’s DPT Program, which is housed at CSI, “based on a careful review of our curriculum and the training we provide for our grads to evaluate and treat youngsters who attend the New York City Schools and require physical therapy intervention and services. We are delighted and honored that CSI was selected for this very special program so we can help to provide much-needed services for the New York City Schools System.”
The grant is slated to cover the period from September 1, 2009 to August 31, 2014.
