We are pleased to announce the campaign launch of “Change Is in the Air” at the College of Staten Island, in support of the CUNY Board of Trustees’ recently approved tobacco policy that will make CUNY the largest smoke- and tobacco-free public university system in the United States.
Out of respect to our colleagues and the environment, and under the leadership of CSI President Dr. Tomás D. Morales, smoking will only be permitted in designated areas on the CSI campus beginning July 1, 2011.
The CSI Tobacco-Free Environment Task Force has created a comprehensive Website to address this important policy change. It contains information regarding CUNY’s revised tobacco policy, motivational cessation programs and resources, a map of the designated smoking areas, and timely news from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The site also features information on second- and third-hand smoke, and a healing timeline for those members of our campus community who choose to overcome their dependence on nicotine.
Designated Smoking Areas will be in effect from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012.
Beginning July 1, 2012, CSI will become a completely smoke- and tobacco-free campus.
Thank you for making CSI a healthier place to work, teach, and learn.
Sincerely,
Linda Conte, Health & Wellness Services
Richard Gid Powers, Department of History
Co-chairs of the Tobacco-Free Environment Task Force
