From Ellis Island to “Jersey Shore”: Images of Italians in the America

Join Distinguished Professor Fred Gardaphé as he discusses the portrayal of Italians in the media: “From Ellis Island to Jersey Shore: Images of Italians in the America” on Wednesday, Oct. 5 in the Center for the Arts (Building 1P) Recital Hall from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

For close to 200 years the Italians in the United States have been portrayed poorly in the U.S. media. What causes this and what are the effects of such portrayals are the subject of Distinguished Professor Fred Gardaphé’s illustrated talk.  Join Distinguished Professor Gardaphé as he addresses Professor Jay Arena’s Minority Groups Class (SOC 240).

This CC CLUE-certified event is open to all, and is sponsored by the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work, and the Pluralism and Diversity program.
