The College community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Auxiliary Services Employee Corey Holmes.  Mr. Holmes, who was engaged in the incident on campus yesterday, worked in the College’s dining services area for the past ten years.  On behalf of the faculty, students, and staff, I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Mr. Holmes.

The loss of life is always a somber moment, and the tragic events of yesterday remind us of how precious life can be.  Grief counseling is available to our College community through the Counseling Center. I encourage members of the College community who knew Mr. Holmes and are affected by this loss to discuss their feelings with one of our counselors by contacting the Counseling Center at 718.982.2391.

It is important to note that during yesterday’s incident the NYPD secured the area within minutes, and Public Safety played an active role in ensuring that campus traffic disruption was kept to a minimum during the Police Department’s investigation.

The CUNY A!ert emergency notification system, which is powered by the State’s NY-Alert notification system, was not activated as there was no ongoing or continuing threat to persons or property. I encourage everyone to sign up for CUNY A!ert to be immediately notified in the event the system is utilized in the future.
