The Gateways to the Laboratory Summer program is now accepting applications.

Every year, the Gateways to the Laboratory Summer program allows students to embark on a ten-week intensive journey of learning about the challenging and gratifying road of becoming a physician-scientist. Participating students work independently on a research project; take part in seminars, presentations, and tours; scrub in on surgeries; and receive mentoring from a current MD-PhD student.

The Gateways to the Laboratory program is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are members of underrepresented minority or disadvantaged backgrounds. The program is only open to current college freshmen or sophomores. Applicants should have a strong and readily apparent desire to pursue a combined MD-PhD degree. This is not an appropriate summer program for students who only wish to eventually pursue a MD or MPH degree. Previous research experience is encouraged, but not required.

The application deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012. For more information or to begin an application, visit the program Website

Students interested in applying may contact Dr. Geoff Hempill at geoffrey.hempill@csi.cuny.edu or 718.982.2301 for assistance with their applications. Further information can also be found in the Career and Scholarship Center in Building 1A, Room 105.
