With the Fall 2012 semester well underway here at the College of Staten Island, we would like to take a moment of your time and introduce you to the office of Veterans Support Services (VSS). Formerly the Student Veteran Center, The VSS, part of the Division of Student Affairs, was established to better assist and respond to the needs of students who have served in the Armed Forces. CSI is dedicated to providing the support needed in order to facilitate a smooth transition from military life to the college experience.

VSS staff consists of a Coordinator for Veterans Support Services, a Veteran Support Specialist, and student Veteran Mentors. The VSS works closely with other campus departments providing referrals and information as needed to ensure that each student receives his or her earned benefits and has access to all of the resources available on and off campus.

Student Affairs would like to invite all students, faculty, and staff to please stop by the VSS office in the Campus Center (Building 1C), Room 219 and introduce themselves. Your suggestions and comments are always welcome and VSS staff is eager to provide information on all of the various campus and community resources available to student veterans and dependents. We have a great support network for our veterans on campus and look forward to expanding our veterans’ services, as our vet enrollment grows.

The Coordinator for Veterans Support Services, Ann Little, and the Veteran Support Specialist, Urszula Echols, stand ready to assist all student veterans and their families. Ann Little is a graduate of CSI and an Army veteran who deployed twice to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Urszula Echols is a Licensed Master Social Worker and has been serving student veterans at CSI for the past five years. Together, they will strive to guarantee that each student veteran’s college experience here at CSI is a successful one.
