Our campus community has sustained a great loss. We have been deeply saddened by the loss of Jason Turetsky, our co-worker and friend. As the Assistant Director of Academic Support, Jason was in charge of support initiatives and managed the Center for Academic Student Assistance, supplemental instruction, and the pre-test preparation initiative. A wonderful mentor to students, Jason was amazingly generous to them with his time, care, and attention. No matter what challenges students faced, helping them always left Jason feeling uplifted.

Jason was also a good citizen of our College community. He served as a trainer for the roll-out of CUNYfirst and had run for election to the College Council. He served as co-chair of Dimension 6 Learning, of the Foundations of Excellence project to examine the first-year student experience, and he was an active participant from 2010 through 2011 for Strategic Direction 4.

To honor this esteemed colleague and proud College of Staten Island alumnus (’07), an annual memorial scholarship has been established in his name. If you would like to make a donation, you may do so easily by going online, clicking on the Make Your Gift Now button, and selecting the “Jason Turetsky Memorial Scholarship” on the drop-down menu for gift designation. If you prefer, you may drop off or mail your check to:

College of Staten Island Foundation
2800 Victory Boulevard, 1A-401
Staten Island, NY 10314

For every gift that is made, a special note will be sent to his family in the hope that this might bring them some measure of comfort.

On behalf of the Turetsky family, I send sincere thanks for your support.
