According to a recent story in the Asbury Park Press, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority was No. 1 in toll revenues collected in the nation in 2012.
A toll industry newsletter, Toll Roads News, ranked the Turnpike Authority as tops in the nation with a total of $1.39 billion in toll revenue received last year.
“On a national scale, these are high numbers … that’s because they raised the tolls,” said Jonathan Peters, finance professor at the College of Staten Island, who studies toll road finance. “When you raise your price, it’s a good thing for your business.”
