It is with sorrow that we share the sad news that Stamos Zades has passed away.
Mr. Zades, who held a Master’s degree in Student Personnel Administration from the Teacher’s College of Columbia University, was a distinguished presence at the College of Staten Island and its predecessor institutions for many years. He was known for his great love of education, the College, and the many students he served.
Hired by Staten Island Community College in 1959, tenured in 1966, Mr. Zades was promoted to professor in 1994. During his years, he loyally served as Dean of Students, Assistant Dean of Faculty, and Academic Ombudsman. He retired in 1997; reunited with his colleague Peter Spirodon in 2003 to dedicate a tree in memory of Walter Willig, the first president of Staten Island Community College; and was honored by the CSI Alumni Association in 2011.
In lieu of flowers, his daughter Lainie Zades requests that donations be made, in his name, to the Stamos O. Zades Memorial Scholarship Fund by calling the CSI Foundation at 718.982.2365.
The College community sends its sympathy to Mr. Zades’s family.
