The College of Staten Island took on the Cardinals of York College tonight in a CUNYAC doubleheader at the CSI Softball Complex on Staten Island, NY. The Dolphins were able to sweep the Cardinals, 13-1, and 12-0. With the wins the Dolphins stay perfect in the CUNYAC at 12-0 and 17-12 overall while the Cardinals drop to 1-11 in the CUNYAC and 5-21 overall.
The Dolphins got off to a quick start as Jacqueline Cautela hit a leadoff triple to centerfield and was then bunted home by Brittany Smith to give the Dolphins their first run of an eight run inning. Later in the first inning Victoria Procopio hit a double to left center which brought home Maxine Jasko all the way from first base. CSI would go on to score eight of their 13 runs in the first inning as they were kept quiet in the second but exploded for another five in the third inning, where Jasko hit a triple to right field to drive in Stefanie Solari.
Game two would go the same way for the Dolphins as they had two huge innings, a four run first inning and a five run fourth inning. York College committed three errors and had just three hits in the game while CSI had 11 hits and 12 runs with no errors in the game.
Cautela started off game two the same as game one with a triple to right center and would once again be driven home by Smith. It was much of the same throughout the game as the CSI batters were having their way with the York pitcher while Procopio was able to keep a clean sheet for the Dolphins.
CSI is back in action tomorrow as they will travel to Montclair, NJ to take on the Redhawks of Montclair State University at 5:00 pm.
