The Gallery of the College of Staten Island is pleased to announce the first exhibition of the fall semester: 1973: The New York Collection for Stockholm: A Print Portfolio from the Newark Public Library.
This exhibition displays 30 prints made by some of the most important New York-based artists of the 1960s. They were assembled to raise funds for the collection of New York modern art that would eventually become part of the permanent collection of the Moderna Museet in Stockholm in 1973. Organized by Billy Klüver and Robert Rauschenberg as an E.A.T. (Experiments in Art and Technology) project, the portfolio of prints reveals a picture of New York modernism as it was exported internationally in the early 1970s. Rauschenberg, Warhol, Segal, Nevelson, Oldenburg, Rosenquist, and many others are represented. The show opens on Wednesday, Oct. 8 and runs through Nov. 8.
The opening reception is on Wednesday, Oct. 8. from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Please join us to celebrate the opening of this important historical show. For more information or to book a class, contact Craig Manister at 718.982.2553.
