Senior goalkeeper Victoria Donegan once again had an outstanding performance as she was called upon to make 14 saves to keep her team alive against a potent Eagles offense.  Those 14 saves would prove not to be enough as an early penalty kick gave way to a 1-0 win for the Eagles, improving their record to 4-8-2 overall while the Dolphins drop to 6-6-1 on the year.

St. Joseph’s offense was too much to handle for the Dolphins in the first half as they were able to find a combination that proved to be useful against CSI’s defense.  The persistent play from the Eagles who were able to rifle off two shots before a through ball down the left side of the field was taken into the box where Krysta Percaccio fouled Heather Nolan which resulted in a penalty kick.  The Eagles’ leading scorer, senior forward Jennifer Martino, would step up and tuck the ball away to the left side of Donegan for the games lone goal.

Despite being outshot 18-2 in the first half the Dolphins did not put their heads down.  CSI came out in the second half with a different game plan which seemed to slow down the Eagles’ offense as the Dolphins outshot the Eagles 8-6 in the second half.

CSI had a few chances that should have found the back of the net.  After a couple of free kicks by Melissa Gelardi which put St. Joseph’s goalie to work, Senda Karagozler received a glorious ball that put her one-on-one with the goalie which was saved to keep the Dolphins off the scoreboard.

With just eight minutes remaining in the game the Eagles had a chance to double their tally however, Donegan wouldn’t allow that as Martino broke free and found herself alone against Donegan who made a huge save to give the Dolphins a chance to tie the game up however the Dolphins couldn’t get another solid chance to score as the Eagles dropped back into a defensive formation to keep the clean sheet.

The Eagles led the overall shot count 24-10 (15-7 on goal), and held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks. St. Joseph’s College – LI improved to 6-1-1 all-time over the Dolphins and have won the last two meetings.

CSI is back in action on Saturday where they will travel to take on Brooklyn College in their last CUNYAC match-up of the season at 12:00pm.
