The College of Staten Island men’s baseball team posted a 5-0 week this past week, and will celebrate with a weekly award from The City University of New York Athletic Conference.  Freshman Eli Rodriguez grabbed the honor; taking home Rookie of the Week honors in what was a tremendous week for him.

Manning the hot corner, Rodriguez batted a whopping .579 in five games, scattering 11 hits in 19 at-bats, garnering three walks to lift his weekly on-base percentage to .636.  Eight of Rodriguez’ hits were for extra bases, including six doubles, a triple and his second homerun of the season.  His slugging percentage was an unbelievable 1.158 for the week.

For the year, Rodriguez has lifted his batting average to .372, and he is tied for second on the team in hits (32), RBI (20), and runs scored with 26.  He leads the squad with 16 walks, advancing the leadoff man’s on-base percentage to .476.

This is Rodriguez’ second Rookie of the Week citation this season.  CSI, which has won 13 of their last 15 games and are 17-9 overall, will next take on Drew University on Tuesday night at 7:00pm at the CSI Baseball Complex as part of their 12th annual Grace Hillery Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
