After more than a week of idle activity, the College of Staten Island women’s tennis team resumed action on Saturday, and defeated Rutgers-Newark on a road test, 9-0, in Newark, NJ. CSI extended to 3-0 on the young season, while the Scarlet Raiders dipped to 1-2.
CSI played with a heavy hand in this match, winning two of the three doubles sets by identical, 8-0, scores. Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert and Madiha Mulla did the honors in the top-spot, while Nozima Toshpulatova and Michelle Kushnir did likewise in the second flight. In the third position, CSI’s team of Hannah Ramirez and Guetanie Romain defeated RU-Newark’s Nicole Murray and Kesha Patel, by an 8-5 count.
Bragerton-Nasert (No. 1) and Mulla (No. 2) both posted 6-0, 6-0, wins when it came to Singles play, and CSI was on cruise control the rest of the way. Toshpulatova, Kushnir, and Ramirez all took wins, while Samantha Mazier entered at No. 5 singles and defeated Julibeth Hernandez, 6-2, 6-0.
CSI will next play Brooklyn College on Monday at 4pm in Brooklyn in a match that was rained out this past Thursday.
