Volunteers for SPLASH: CSI’s New Student Orientation

This January, we will be welcoming our incoming students for the spring semester at SPLASH: CSI’s New Student Orientation program. SPLASH is designed to help new students become familiar with the CSI campus, its academic programs, and the breadth and depth of our student and academic support services. In addition, SPLASH is also an opportunity to help new students navigate through their initial advisement and registration for their first semester of classes with the overall goal of easing the transition experience to the College community.

At this time, I am reaching out to encourage your participation in SPLASH for the January 2016 programs by serving as a volunteer to assist and support specific components of the orientation events. The SPLASH sessions are scheduled to occur on the following dates:

-Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 11 and 12

-Thursday and Friday, Jan. 21 and 22

Volunteer support is needed on both days of the orientation programs, including assistance with check-in activities on Day One of each event and helping to guide new students through their registration sessions on Day Two of each event. Please see below for more details regarding specific information about each of these activities:

On Day One of each Orientation – (Jan. 11 and Jan. 21):

Event Time:  8:00am – 9:15am; Volunteer Position: Orientation Check-In; # of Volunteers Needed: 10

Volunteers at the orientation check-in tables assist New Student Orientation Leaders with welcoming the new students, as well as helping to check the students into the orientation program and distribute their welcome materials.

On Day Two of each Orientation – (Jan. 12 and Jan. 22):

Event Time:  11:15am – 1:00pm or 3:10pm – 5:00pm; Volunteer Position: Supplemental Advisement Staff; # of Volunteers Needed: 20

Please see the letter from the Center for Advising and Academic Success (CAAS) regarding more information about the supplemental advisement staff volunteer role and details concerning training sessions.

Support from the campus community is needed for each of these activities to ensure the success of these programs. If you are interested in volunteering at SPLASH, please consult with your department supervisor regarding your intent to participate in the orientation activity on the dates and times listed above. After receiving permission to participate, please forward your preferences to vicki.lehrer@csi.cuny.edu in the Office of New Student Programs. If you have any questions regarding volunteer assignments, the dates, the times, or the location of these activities, please do not hesitate to contact michael.maslankowski@csi.cuny.edu, Deputy Director of New Student Programs.

Thank you in advance for helping to support our new students at CSI.
