The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) is beginning a project that will impact the entire campus community. Some of you may have already heard the exciting and long-anticipated news that we are replacing the entirety of Loop Road. This road will include new curbs and gutters, a new storm drainage system, and a new, pothole-free surface (not just a resurfacing of the existing road). The new Loop Road will be a great improvement on what we currently have. Unfortunately, in order to complete the work, traffic around campus may be inconvenient at times.

The first phase of this work will begin on or around August 1 and the project  consists of ten phases. Phase 1 will consist of:

  • Replacing the southernmost roadway stretching from 6S to 5S
  • The straightening of the Loop Road by parking lot #4
  • Replacing the roadway leading up to parking lot #1 by the softball field

As we work our way around campus, there will be times when entire sections of roadway will need to be taken out of service. Access to buildings and parking lots will be maintained but, depending on your destination, you might need to circle the campus to get to where you are going.

Throughout the project, there will be periods of time when traffic will be reduced to one lane in order to install underground utilities or curbs and  gutters. During those times, there will be workers directing traffic, ensuring that those areas are safe to pass.

If all goes according to plan, we hope to have this work completed by mid-December.

We will do our best to keep the campus community up to date as we move through this project. For your convenience, we will be posting the roadway phasing plan on the Campus Planning Website.

Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation as we complete this important reconstruction project. If you have any questions, please contact the Campus Planning Office at 718.982.3214.
