The College of Staten Island women’s tennis team won their opener last weekend, now are back on the court this time on the road to take on York College in another CUNYAC test.  Today is part of back-to-back days of tennis for the squad, matching up against a Cardinals team that is just opening their 2017 campaign.

CSI vs. YORK COLLEGE AT-A-GLANCE
Matchup:  CSI (1-0, 1-0 CUNYAC) vs. York College (0-0, 0.0)
Where: York College Courts – 94-20 Guy R. Brewer Boulevard, Jamaica, NY
All-Time Series:  CSI leads, 9-0
Last Year’s Meeting:  CSI defeated York, 9-0
Players to Watch (CSI):  The Dolphins scored a 6-3 win in their opener and Samantha Mazier took No. 2 Singles and Doubles to power the team and she will look to stay hot hear the top of the lineup.  Senior Aziza Jurabaeva will look to equal that success as well as she was a double-winner, as was Katherine Villarroel and Guetanie Romain.
Players to Watch (YC):  The Cardinals are looking to their youth for guidance as they feature a roster with one junior and 10 freshmen players that all look to make things happen in 2017.  Conetia Anderson is the only experienced player for the Cardinals.  She doubles on the Softball team as well.  Last year in tennis, Anderson went 0-4 in singles.
News and Notes:  York had their opener against St. Joseph’s (BK) postponed due to weather last week, so today is officially their first game of the season.  Last year the Dolphins took a 9-0 win and the Dolphins yielded only a single point in the entire match.  The outlook today is expected to be different as York will feature a virtually new lineup this afternoon.  This is CSI’s first visit to York since 2014, when they took a 7-2 win.  In five of the last six matches, CSI has won via shutout.  CSI is 3-0 all-time on the road against York.  After today’s contest, CSI returns home for a date with Stockton University tomorrow in a match that starts at 12:30pm.
