The College of Staten Island women’s soccer team regained their form today and picked up a 7-0 win over CUNYAC opponents Medgar Evers College.  The Dolphins have now won two of their last three games, bumping their record up to 8-4-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the CUNYAC.

The Dolphins dominated straight from the initial whistle and it took only four minutes for Staten Island to find their first goal of the game. Victoria Sanchez tallied her first of three assists when she sprinted down the right side of the pitch and curled in a ball into the box which found Concetta Perito waiting for an easy tap-in.  The goal marks the first for Perito this season. Perito’s day, however, was not over as just three minutes later she would find the back of the net once more, again off of a cross from Sanchez.

Diana Estrada would net her first of the season when she beat a Cougar defender with a nice move to set herself free on net.  Estrada would put her head down and launch a shot from outside the 18 that found its way into the bottom left corner to increase the Dolphins’ lead to 3-0.  With the Dolphins controlling the pace of the game, and the Cougars unable to get any offense going, Sanchez continued to feast along the right flank and collected her third assist of the game.  Sanchez would pick her head up and find Paulina Ambrus open on the top of the box. Ambrus would receive the ball and uncork a beautiful shot to the far post for her first tally of the year.

Kiara Meza-Mendez would collect her second goal of the season when Nermina Bracic flew down the left side and crossed a ball into the box which found Meza-Mendez wide open.  Meza-Mendez was able to curl the ball into the lower right corner for the fifth goal of the game.  Bracic would net a goal of her own just a few minutes later when she was able to dribble past a few Cougar defenders and tuck it near post.  The Dolphins opted to play keep away for the remainder of the game and hold onto their large 6-0 lead.

The Dolphins increased the score by one in the second half when Brittany Bornstad volleyed a cross from Bracic to bury the final goal of the game.

The Dolphins outshot the Cougars 28-0 while also holding a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.

Staten Island returns to action on Monday, October 9 when they take on non-conference opponents Stockton University at 7:00 pm.
