The College of Staten Island baseball team had their single game against John Jay postponed on Friday, and then the doubleheader portion yesterday, and so will get the three-game set underway this afternoon as the road team on their own field in a doubleheader today beginning at 11am.

All-Time Series: CSI leads, 81-42
Last Meeting: May 5, 2018 – CSI won 5-4 & 8-6
Players to Watch (CSI): CSI continues to be led by Jett Nouvertne, who leads the team in hitting, batting .397. Sean Becker is tops on the team with 12 extra-base hits and will need his big bat in today’s DH. Domenick Castiglione will be looking to also do damage, raising his average up to .343, and look for Andrew Nathan and Nick Meola to add some pop to the middle of the lineup as well. Pitchers John Esposito, Salvatore Trancucci and Christian Capellan should see action this weekend and the Dolphins are hoping to get long innings out of their starters this afternoon.
Players to Watch (JJC): Steven Catuongo has been lethal for JJC this season, posting a .398 average with a team-best 49 hits, 10 for extra bases, including three triples. Sean Napier, at .359, has a team-best eight doubles with 24 RBI, which also paces the team. Zach Hyde has flashed plenty of power. He is batting .342 with seven doubles, four triples, and four home runs, that’s good for a team-high .567 slugging percentage. Look for Jared Hershfield to lead the way on the mound. He is 1-3 with a 5.79 ERA, while Napier is 2-4 with an 8.15 ERA. Stephen Strategakos could also figure in the mix as he is 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA.
News & Notes: CSI and John Jay have been pairing up since the 1978 season, and today marks their 124th meeting all-time. CSI has had the better of it, winning 81 of the games, and they are on a streak where they have taken five out of the last six games, including two on the same day last year for the CUNYAC Tournament Championship. Both of these teams will not make the CUNYAC Postseason, but one of them can. For CSI, they can make the CUNYAC Championship Series with a series sweep of John Jay and at least one CCNY loss to Lehman this weekend. Should CSI lose once this weekend to John Jay, they would need Lehman to defeat CCNY twice in their three game set in order to gain the Championship. For John Jay, they need a sweep of CSI coupled with two Lehman victories over CCNY in order to gain the Final. Baruch College, finishing with a record of 8-4, has secured a berth into the CUNYAC Championship Series. They secure the No. 1 seed with at least one Lehman win over CCNY. Should CCNY sweep Lehman, they would finish No. 2, with CCNY winning the Regular Season Championship. A CCNY sweep of Lehman would eliminate CSI, while a Lehman sweep of CCNY would eliminate John Jay.
