Staten Island, NY | In what was likely the most pristine day of the spring season to date, the College of Staten Island Athletics Department celebrated their annual Golf Outing at the beautiful Richmond County Country Club on Monday.  The event, through attendees, sponsorships and raffle prizes generates funds for CSI Athletics operations each year, and was another rousing success.

The day started with registration and a lavish breakfast spread provided by the RCCC staff.  CSI Athletics staffers, coupled with student-athletes spanning the intercollegiate sports, were on-hand to help with the registration and welcoming events.  The shotgun start began at 12 Noon, with just over 100 registered golfers taking the links.  Several contests at holes took place with sponsors such as Villa Marin setting up a hole-in-one, $20,000 contest, while local businesses like Ho’Bruh and Flagship Brewery set up refreshment stands along the course.

Organized by a committee led by CSI Events Manager Anthony Avena and Director of Athletics Charles Gomes, the outing’s end culminates in a full buffet dinner at the RCCC Field House, hosted by CSI Baseball Head Coach and Marketing a Development Coordinator Michael Mauro, where raffles and memorabilia were awarded to many members in attendance.  All told, the event raised over $20,000 for the program, making it another rousing success for all involved.

“Our annual golf outing provides an opportunity to complete our athletic season by spending time with all of the members of the Staten Island community who support CSI Athletics,” said Gomes. “The day was a great success for our student-athletes as all proceeds directly benefit our athletic program. We can’t thank each of the participants enough for the generous support.”

The Golf Outing, and events like it are one in a series of revenue-generating initiatives that the department undertakes.  The program utilizes the funds to offset general operating costs like team travel and meals, and in the future, potential scholarship offerings at the NCAA Division II level.
