Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island will serve as the hosts this weekend for the City University of New York Athletic Conference Baseball and Softball Championship Tournaments, and when they do, they will find their Dolphins teams right in the hunt for a repeat championship on both diamonds. It wouldn’t be the spring without Mother Nature being involved, and so the conference may shuffle start times in an effort to stay ahead of the weather. Below is everything you need to know about the championship weekend at CSI, and how to stay involved.
CUNYAC Baseball Championship Series
In a departure from Baseball Championship Tournaments of the past, this year’s championship is a best-of-three game series between the top two teams in the conference, with the winner advancing to next weekend’s best-of-three championship series with the winner of the North Atlantic Conference. The winner of that series, will move on to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
This weekend will feature No. 2 College of Staten Island taking on No. 1 Baruch College for the right to lift the CUNYAC trophy. The Dolphins are the four-time defending CUNYAC Champions, and finished tied in the standings with Baruch College this season with an 8-4 record. Baruch took two of the three games against CSI this season, breaking the tie in the standings, which will make them the home team in games 1 and 3 (if necessary) this weekend.
Game times may change in light of the weather, but the preliminary plan is for the opening game in the series to take place Friday at 3pm. Game two of the series will then be played at 12 Noon on Saturday, and if a Game 3 is necessary, that would be played following Game 2 on Saturday, at approximately 3pm. Should weather be a major concern on Saturday, then the conference could opt to make Friday a doubleheader and leave Saturday as a single, if necessary, game. All games will be played as 9-inning games. A weather-related decision will be made by Friday morning at 9am.
Live statistics will be available throughout the series with live streaming via CSI SportsNet available on Friday. If poor weather is anticipated for the CUNYAC Softball Tournament on Saturday, then live streaming may be available for baseball again on Saturday.

CUNYAC Softball Postseason Championship Tournament
The CUNYAC Softball Championship Tournament will take place at the CSI Softball Complex and features four teams playing in a double-elimination format tournament, with opening play set for Friday and the Championship Finals taking place on Saturday. The winner earns at automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament.
The College of Staten Island, coming in as the six-time defending CUNYAC Champions, finished 10-2 in CUNYAC play this season, grabbing the No. 2 seed in their year’s tournament. Hunter College has claimed the top seed, finishing 11-1, their only loss at the hands of CSI. No. 3 Lehman College finished the CUNYAC Regular Season with a record of 8-4, while John Jay College will enter as the No. 4 seed, boasting a 7-5 CUNYAC mark.
Hunter will open play at 11:00am against John Jay, with CSI then taking on Lehman College at 1:15pm. At approximately 3:15pm, the two teams that lost the first two games will square off with the losing side being eliminated from play. At approximately 5:15pm, the two winning teams from the first two games will square off. The winner of that game will automatically move on to the Championship Game on Saturday. The losing team will play the winner of the third game in another elimination game to begin play on Saturday.
Saturday’s games will begin at 11:00am. There will be at the minimum two games played. Because of anticipated bad weather the CUNYAC may push up the start times on Friday one whole hour, but as of press time, this change has not been made. If and when the change is made, it will be altered on this page.
Live statistics will be available throughout the series with live streaming via CSI SportsNet available on Saturday. If poor weather is anticipated for the CUNYAC Softball Tournament on Saturday, then live streaming may be moved to baseball on Saturday.
