Core 100 at the College of Staten Island/CUNY is a required general education/college level civics course that seeks to ensure that students who graduate from the College will have learned some of the basic tenets of what it means to be an active and engaged citizen.

In the last two years, the Core 100 Program has piloted a number of sections of the course that have integrated a civic engagement component into the course. The goal of this pilot has been to provide students with real-life applications of what they were asked to learn in the classroom. The students are tasked with identifying a legal, social, and/or economic problem impacting the Staten Island community and developing creative solutions to the problem.

This semester, two of these classes have partnered and the students have been tasked to research the issue of homelessness on Staten Island and they have been challenged to propose effective ways to address this growing problem.

The Core 100 Program would like to invite the public to attend the students’ presentation of their proposals on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm in the Center for the Arts (Building 1P) Williamson Theatre.
