As a reminder, according to the PSC-CUNY contract, the maximum accrual of annual leave for members of the non-teaching instructional staff shall not exceed 45 working days as of Monday, Aug. 31 of any year, and any annual leave balance in excess of 45 days will be deducted from the employee’s accrual balance at the close of business on said date.

As a result, we write to encourage staff who will have any annual leave accumulation in excess of the 45-day cap, to submit written requests to their supervisors to use such excess leave before Aug. 31, 2020, as soon as possible. We also encourage supervisors to approve reasonable requests in writing, or if the needs of the department so require, supervisors, in consultation with Department Directors, should propose an alternative schedule for use of the annual leave within the contractual period.

Employees should feel free to contact Human Resources if their request was denied, and an alternative plan has not been proposed within a reasonable time. All work-down plans that were submitted to their Directors by the contractual deadline of Sunday, Mar. 1, 2020 and approved by Wednesday, Apr. 1, 2020, consistent with the contract, should be followed.

We understand that these are difficult times, but we should all work together and make all efforts to ensure that such requests are submitted and approved in enough time to use the excess leave by the contractual deadline.
