It is with great sorrow that the College of Staten Island reports the loss of a student in the Creative Exchange Program to COVID-19.
Sonya Alexander was a student in the Creative Exchange Program since 2018. She was born in 1994, and graduated high school from The Richard H. Hungerford School in 2015.
“Her mother described her as a fun-loving girl that enjoyed life, love, food, being in the kitchen, and shopping. She loved to dance and going to church every Sunday,” Michael Green, Program Coordinator commented.
Sonya attended church functions. She loved her grandmother, who was the Archbishop of her church, and who loved her to. There was something very pleasant about Sonya, where everyone who came into contact with her appreciated having known her. She passed away on April 5, 2020, after six days on a ventilator as a result of COVID-19.
Rety Alexander, Sonya’s mother, shared that Sonya was “a special rose in a special garden and will be greatly missed and loved.” We, at the Creative Exchange Program share those thoughts, and will miss her.
