As we begin the Spring 2021 semester, I am pleased to welcome back all of our returning students, faculty, and staff. For those who are new to the College of Staten Island, welcome to the CSI Family.

This semester will be similar to last semester, with most of our courses being provided in an online modality as we continue to adhere to the principle that the health and safety of our community is our number-one priority. As it was in the Fall, all of the services we normally provide on campus will still be fully available remotely. Please be sure to let us know if you need assistance.

With the promise of widespread inoculations, our Campus Health, Safety, and Re-entry committee, led by Provost Michael Parrish and Vice President Hope Berte, will be reconvening and working on updating and continuing to implement our campus re-entry plan, which is consistent with all CUNY, state, and federal guidelines, as we look forward to a gradual and safe return to campus in Fall 2021.

Please check your College emails, as we will continue to provide updates when additional information becomes available. You may also refer to our Website’s main page for CSI News, campus events, and announcements, and follow us on our social media accounts to stay in the know.

For those who are approved to work on campus or whose classes are being held on campus this semester, please remember to wear a face covering, keep six feet apart, wash/sanitize your hands frequently, and stay home when you are sick. We must all continue to do our part to keep the campus community safe and healthy.

That said, as NY State continues to rollout and update its phased distribution of the vaccine,  I encourage everyone to get vaccinated as soon as eligible.

Finally, I am looking forward to engaging in important efforts to achieve our mission to further diversification, inclusion, and belonging at CSI.  As part of these efforts, within the next few weeks, beginning on Monday, Feb. 22, we will invite the campus community to participate in our 21-Day Equity Habit Building Challenge, modeled after the 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge© (registered copyright of America & Moore, LLC., 2014) developed and trademarked by Dr. Eddie Moore Jr. of America & Moore. My sincere hope is that you will all join us in this powerful and educational experience.

Keep an eye out for further details. I look forward to seeing you all then.

Best wishes for a great semester,

By William J. Fritz
