I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Dante Tawfeeq is joining us as Interim Associate Provost for Graduate Studies, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness on Thursday, July 1. Dr. Tawfeeq comes to us from John Jay College, where he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics. He recently was Director of their Mathematics Foundation Quantitative Reasoning Program and also a Faculty Research Fellow to the Dean of Research, International Partnerships, and Professional Studies. He has served as a Middle States Commission Peer and Compliance Evaluator since 2016 and has also served as an NCATE/CAEP evaluator for Mathematics programs since 2004.

Dante has been awarded $1.75M in external grants as PI or co-PI from NSF, the NY and National departments of Education, the Educational Advancement Foundation, and also served as a Fulbright Fellow in Namibia in 2015. He earned his Doctorate from Florida State University, and his master’s from Florida A&M, both in Mathematics Education, and will complete his Master’s in Research Administration and Compliance from the CUNY School of Professional Studies this summer. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Institutional Research from Florida State University.

At John Jay, Dr. Tawfeeq received the campus Teaching Award from President Mason in 2019, and co-chaired the campus Diversity Council. Along with being an affiliated faculty member at The Graduate Center, CUNY, Dante’s research interest focuses on historically underrepresented students’ success in STEM at the post-secondary level. His broad range of experience in the main areas of this position makes Dr. Tawfeeq uniquely qualified for this position. Please join me in welcoming Dante to CSI.
