Dr. Stanley Aronowitz, a prolific and influential scholar who was most recently distinguished Professor at The Graduate Center, passed away on Monday, Aug. 16.
Dr. Aronowitz previously taught at Staten Island Community College, where he and Professor David Nasaw created a program sponsored by the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education that prepared students for positions in community organizations. During his long and distinguished career, Dr. Aronowitz also taught at the Free University of New York and UC Irvine. He was the author of 27 books on a wide variety of subjects including politics, class, education, radicalism, and social equity.
Although Dr. Aronowitz had not been on the faculty in Staten Island for some time, he is fondly remembered by many for whom he served as colleague and mentor.
