I just learned the sad news of the passing last night of Professor Arnie Kantrowitz, long-time faculty member and former chair in the Department of English and an international leader in the field of LGBT studies. Please see the remembrance of Dr. Kantrowitz below by English Chair Lee Papa.

Hi, all,
Arnie Kantrowitz, our former department chair and a professor here for over 40 years, has passed away. Arnie was a trailblazing LGBT activist inside and outside academia, as an author and as a co-founder of GLAAD. I remember him as a passionate advocate for the department and a warm, welcoming figure. If you didn’t know Arnie, the New York Public Library, where his papers are archived, has a lovely biography. Very sad news.
When I hear about the funeral arrangements, I will let you know. Maryann Feola and Matt Brim are looking into holding a memorial event at CSI in the Spring.
