You are invited to join the Willowbrook Legacy Project as we mark the one-year anniversary of the opening of the Willowbrook Mile on the CSI Campus with guided tours and open conversations about the site.
Together we will walk all or part of the Mile, depending on visitors’ interests, and answer any questions raised. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about the legacy of the Willowbrook State School, which occupied the site that is now our campus. Come learn about ways that the College is honoring that legacy today, in its direct support and inclusion for members of the IDD community, and in training those who will enter careers of caring, teaching, service, and advocacy for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Help us keep the history alive as a living monument to what has been, and what must be in the future. Come learn about why the CSI campus site stands as ground zero in the ongoing fight for disability justice.
The event is free, open to all, and appropriate for all ages; participants are encouraged to bring the whole family, friends, and neighbors. Please pre-register at Eventbrite to let us know you will join us.
When: Saturday, Sept. 23
Time: 10:00am-2:00pm
Where: Outside the Center for the Arts (Building 1P)
We must never forget the Willowbrook story — and we must never let it happen again.
